Three compounds, full spectrum
FEYNLAB® A-Series is a three-step polishing system built on ceramic aluminum oxide with linear cut (see DAT vs. SMAT). It covers the full defect range — from industrial oxidation to final “jeweling” before ceramic coating.
The goal is not “more bottles” but reaching the target with the lowest aggression possible. A test spot on an inconspicuous panel decides which compound to start with.
Interactive comparison
Abrasive grain size in A-Series compounds
Toggle compound grade to compare abrasive grain size. Didactic only — real performance depends on pad, pressure, and panel temperature.
A500 — medium polish
~1.5 μmBalanced ~1.5 μm grit for one-step correction and medium defects. Much less marring than compound.
For scale: human hair ~70 μm • dust particles ~10 μm
FEYNLAB A50 — Super Heavy Cutting Compound
Highest concentration of the coarsest ceramic aluminum oxide particles in the portfolio. Primary role: uncompromising rapid abrasion for heavy oxidation, acid etching, deep RIDs, and sanding marks.
- Cutting power: Removes P1000 sanding trails with relative ease.
- Use: Extremely hard clear coats, oxidized marine gelcoat, industrial finishes.
- Finish character: Despite brutal cut, leaves a surprisingly clean surface — microscopic grain sharpness shears rather than tears the film.
Recommended pairings
| Machine | Pad | Expected outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Rotary (up to 1600 RPM) + wool | Rapid defect removal, strong holograms and haze — requires follow-up | |
| DA (FEYNMACH V3) + URO-Fiber microfiber | Smooths deep RIDs; may leave light haze on softer clears |
A50 is a professional tool. In DIY hands it makes sense only on very hard paint with a proven test spot and follow-up with medium compound. Most daily drivers never need A50.
FEYNLAB A500 — Medium Polishing Compound
The center of the system. Mid-calibrated abrasives deliver enough aggression for medium-depth scratches and holograms with excellent finishing behavior.
“One-step” sweet spot
A500 + medium foam (e.g. CCS HDO Polishing) on a DA is the most usable combo for a typical daily driver. One step removes 80–90% of defects and leaves very high gloss without mandatory further correction.
Pairing behavior
- With a firm pad it behaves like a coarse compound (strong cut).
- With a soft pad it behaves like a fine finishing compound (light cut, heavy gloss).
That variability makes A500 the first compound to own for personal machine polishing. It covers more situations than A50 and A1000 combined.
FEYNLAB A1000 — Fine Finishing Polish
The final step professionals call “jeweling.” Ultra-fine calibrated particles do not remove deep RIDs — they level micro-marring left by earlier steps and maximize optical depth.
- Extended workability — lubricants do not dry out in long cycles.
- Soft finishing foam + minimal pressure — energy comes from speed, not hand force.
- Low dusting — critical in studio environments.
When to use A1000
- Third step after A50 / A500 for show-car finish.
- Standalone step on new vehicles before premium FEYNLAB coating.
- Refinement after PPF installation or light cosmetic correction.
Practical pairing matrix
| Paint condition | Paint type | Pad | Compound | Machine | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Extreme defects, P1000 sand | Hard, marine gelcoat | Wool | A50 | Rotary | Fast leveling; holograms remain |
| Heavy swirls, etching | Hard / medium | URO-Fiber microfiber | A50 | DA V3 | RID reduction; possible haze on soft paint |
| Medium swirls, wash marring | Medium / soft | Firm / medium foam | A500 | DA V3 | One-step finish, 80–90% defect removal |
| Light holograms, new-paint prep | All types | Soft finishing foam | A1000 | DA V3 / V3 MINI | Maximum specular reflection |
What A-Series cannot do
- Scratches below clear-coat level — no compound restores pigment. Correction ends; body shop begins.
- Orange peel texture — requires wet sanding; certified studio only.
- Dried fillers from previous poor compounds — A-Series has no fillers and will not replace them. If old protection masked defects, they appear after A-Series. That is a feature, not a flaw.
Consumption and pad life
Linear cut means 3–4 dime-sized drops per 60 × 60 cm section. Lubrication is sized so compound does not dry before the cycle ends.
After wipe-down, brush or air-clean the pad so cut stays linear in the next section.
Key takeaways
- A50 = heaviest correction, studio or very hard paint with proven test spot.
- A500 is the universal DIY one-step candidate.
- A1000 separates “polished” from “finished” — always before ceramic.
- Zero fillers + body shop safe = truthful finish the ceramic film can actually hold.
