Alkaline environment (pH above 8)
12 minEstimated reading time — roughly how many minutes it takes to read at a normal screen pace.
Targets grease, traffic film, insects, resins, oils, and soot. Key mechanism is saponification — splitting fats into soap-like components soluble in water.

How cleaning action changes with pH
Use the slider to set pH and see what the phase targets. Simplified illustration — real products have controlled formulations and dwell time.
Neutral maintenance (pH 6–8)
Routine washing of protected vehicles. Shampoo cleans via surfactants and micelle formation, without unnecessary aggression on protective layers.
Recommended regime for weekly washing of ceramic-coated paint.
Surface state
White crystals = minerals • yellow stains = organics
This diagram explains the principle. Specific products and procedures are covered in the paint preparation articles and safety guidance.
Alkaline environment (pH above 8)
Targets grease, traffic film, insects, resins, oils, and soot. Key mechanism is saponification — splitting fats into soap-like components soluble in water.
Acid environment (pH below 6)
Targets mineral contamination: hard-water spots, fallout, metal oxides. Acids can chelate calcium and magnesium into soluble salts.
Neutral environment (around pH 7)
For routine maintenance of protected vehicles, neutral shampoo is the baseline. It cleans via surfactants and micellization, does not aggressively strip waxes or polymer layers in a sensible regime, and after rinse leaves natural water behaviour on ceramic.
Practical rule
Choosing phase by soil type
Organics and fats
Alkaline pre-wash phase with controlled dwell time. Never let it dry.
Minerals and water scale
Targeted acid in the studio or manufacturer-intended product — never random household acid.
Daily use
Neutral washing and quality drying; the protective layer maintains hydrophobicity on its own.
